What to do if your laptop or smartphone is lost or stolen?

In case of loss or theft, the first action to take is to immediately contact Novanexys, call us at +32 10 39 74 34 or reach out to your designated contact person.

We will take the necessary actions to protect your data.

Other important actions

  • Report the theft or loss to the police.
  • Report the theft or loss to your supervisor.
  • Evaluate your GDPR obligations: if personal data may have been exposed (unencrypted device, insufficient protections…), you must document the incident and, if necessary, notify the Data Protection Authority within 72 hours.

Novanexys will draft an incident report: this can be added to your GDPR documentation. This report includes:

  • the factual details of the incident;
  • an assessment of the risks related to personal and/or confidential data;
  • the set of technical measures taken in response to the incident;
  • suggestions for improvement to enhance security in the future.
